Honestly I wish I could ditch IE once and for all. I just hate it. It sucks and there is no other way of looking at it. It’s just another example of how monopolistic practices result in crappy products. No wonder Firefox and the rest are eating up such a large market share. It’s no secret they are simply much better than IE. While IE 8’s release is certainly good news it’s not really going to shake up the computer world when at best it simply offers some of the features that these other browsers already offer and at worst is just much slower! Who wants slow when it comes to the internet? I want a browser that can keep up with how fast I read. I hate waiting for pages to load. It’s not for lack of attention span it’s because I have better things to do. Why don’t I just switch? Unfortunately our MLX requires IE. I just wonder if IE 8 even works on it. Oh I guess it does lucky me.
Anyways for us stuck using IE still this is good news I guess but for the rest of the word, some 30% that have moved on to bigger and better things they are probably not going to look back.
Oh and what really sucks is that you have to restart your machine to even see it in action. That right there tells me I probably don’t want this hunk of junk installed on my machine. I can tell already it’s slower than before.
You can read more about IE8 here at Tech Crunch.
You can get IE8 here.

Ok speed is in. It’s one of the biggest selling points for Chrome and a strong reason to use Firefox beyond all the great extensions available. Really everyone is getting tired of slow loading sites and if you see my post here you can maybe fix it on your end by fixing your slow site or blog. But it’s not always the website that is slow and sometimes great content just takes time. But when you have a fast connection like I do at home (10 mbit) then why on earth does it take so dang long to load a website? Well the problem isn’t always the site. It’s sometimes because of how your browser renders it and some are just faster than others. The new Safari, for instance, is supposed to be really fast but I see it’s not listed in Microsoft’s new announcement.
Anyways if you want to see what they said check out this post here over at Ars.
One thing to note is that Microsoft points out that Firefox loads Microsoft.com faster than Internet explorer and vice versa IE loads Mozilla.com faster. Are they just trying to say they are being impartial or are they really being impartial? It’s hard to say and you can certainly test it for yourself if you have a stop watch and quick fingers. Regardless the best news is that for those of us who are stuck using IE it does seem they have worked out a lot of kinks and honestly I can’t wait to try out the new Windows. I am a Windows fan I admit it. I even like Vista it’s really much better than XP. If a Mac didn’t cost double a PC and if it actually was open source it would be much harder to resist but paying double for no reason and for the same exact hardware is ridiculous and they are even more closed source than Microsoft and that’s hard to even roll off my tongue.
